Tis the season to be ... Peaceful.
So we made it through November and the excitement of Christmas is coming. We've marched through the dark days into the days of Christmas lights and extravagance. Now our evenings can be a little brighter and a little more joyful, with a backdrop of sparkling red and green.
Every year, around this time, budding elves and grinchs awake to the fact that one of the biggest holidays of the year has arrived and yet there is still so much work to do. I always wonder whether the pressure society has put on the perfect Christmas reduces our enjoyment of the season as a whole.
So in a bid to get the most peaceful and enjoyable Christmas just take a step back. Focus on the people, not the presents, the community and not the decor.
As a Christian, for me this season of advent is about, joyful expectancy in the form of a saviours birth. So in preparation, I'm counting down the days to Christmas with the Tearfund Advent Calender.
Its important to keep up with what's good and positive in your life, especially around Christmas, or you risk falling into to a spiral of wants and confusion. Advert after advert, campaign after campaign and yet too rarely the true reasons and the true values of Christmas are upheld. Why fill yourself with extra stress when the idea of a holiday is to relax ?
Take a breath, be still and hold on to hope.
I pray that this is season is peaceful, joyful and encouraging for all.
