The Beautiful Power of Nature

I have always been an anxious person. Cities, crowds and decisions are amongst the things that stress me the most. But in nature and the environment I have always found beauty and calm.

When I went through a phase of serious anxiety my Dad started to take me out for a morning walk everyday, as a way to get fresh air and still my nerves before the day. It really helped me and from then I have had a strong belief in the positive effect that nature can have on mental health.

I have seen some beautiful places, one of the places that will always stay with me was Gavarnie in the South of France (pictured above). You couldn't help but be humbled by the vast beauty of greenery, snow and river all mingled together. It was one of those places where you feel truly peaceful and get a fresh sense of purpose, this pure untainted beauty needs preservation.

Even now when I'm finding work or life stressful I will take myself out for a walk and find that my head quickly clears allowing me to return home ready to take on whatever is needed of me. I want to encourage you to utilise the free, stress busting, health improving experience of being outside somewhere beautiful.

Find your local natural beauty sites. Maybe it's a park or a nature reserve, go there, enjoy it and appreciate it. There have been many studies into the positive effect of nature, there's even specialised nature gardens which are used as a form of therapy!

So make the most of this free gift, it will enrich you in so many ways.

    1. What a lovely way to put it, the soul needs nurturing and walking is a great way to do it.
